2023 went by in a blink and took some time to digest. First, I did it: I asked my love, and she said Yes! We've never felt that we needed that kind of confirmation, but it makes sense to make it official as we are now a small family. We made some beautiful trips to Sylt and Crete to recharge our batteries. I’m not sure if we just got lucky this year, but we felt that the ocean breeze of Sylt made our daughter very resistant to sickness. When I didn't have to listen to Pepper Pig, I squeezed in these songs.
Some continuous client projects began to slow down, which made room for new opportunities. I could help reteach to refresh their website, which was fun as I dabbled a little bit into illustration work.
I was also deeply honored that I got the chance to work for the Leo Baeck Institute on their Library Of Lost Books project. The project's goal is to recover books from Jewish authors that got stolen during the dark times of Nazi Germany. I contributed wireframes and the UX concept for the public database. It's also worth checking out the fantastic story-driven website done by Goldener Westen to learn more about it. After the project was finished, we witnessed the horrific Hamas terror attack on the 7th of October, 2023. Jewish people saw the biggest Pogrom since WW2, and I'm still shocked by it. I can understand absolutely no one who is not demanding the release of the hostages in the first place. By this writing, there are still 134 hostages in captivity.
Onto 2024.
